Tether
About
Tether is a blockchain-enabled platform that issues stablecoin tokens pegged 1:1 to fiat currencies including USD (USD₮), Mexican Peso (MXN₮), and gold (XAU₮). Launched in 2014, it provides price-stable digital assets that move across multiple blockchains, enabling businesses and individuals to transact with traditional currency equivalents in the digital ecosystem without inherent cryptocurrency volatility.
Where Does Yield Come From?
Tether tokens do not earn you any yield (interest or returns). They are designed to stay fixed in value — one USDT always aims to be worth one US dollar, one XAUt always aims to match a certain amount of gold, and so on.
Tether runs on a fully reserved system. That means every token in circulation is backed by Tether's reserves — real money, cash-like holdings, and other assets. According to Tether's own documents, those reserves can include loans that Tether has made to other parties.
So Tether may earn income from managing its reserves (for example, by lending some of them out). But that income stays with Tether — it is not passed on to you as a token holder. Your token's value does not grow; it just stays pegged to the dollar or gold.
In short: Tether's business model is about earning from its reserve management and treasury operations, not about sharing yield with people who hold its tokens.
